British band Big Special, consisting of vocalist Joe Hicklin and drummer Callum Moloney, have secured their position as one of the most exciting acts to emerge from the British music scene in recent years since their formation during Lockdown. Their debut album Postindustrial Hometown Blues, released on May 10, 2024, has received widespread critical and audience acclaim. Reviews in media such as Clash, DIY or The Guardian, highlight their ability to combine raw post-punk with elements of soul and blues. It is their uncompromising approach to music and openness to different cultures that makes them one of the musical projects to watch.

Big Special are famous not only for their studio work, but also for their energetic live performances. They make no secret of the fact that their biggest inspiration is the band Sleaford Mods. They even supported the band on a tour of the UK and Ireland in 2023, which helped them gain the attention of a wider audience and media. Then last year they toured in support of the legendary Pixies, which included a visit to Prague's Forum Karlín. The year 2024 was a year of relentless touring for the band - they performed at prestigious festivals such as South by Southwest in the USA, Maho Rasop in Thailand and Bandland in India.

Big Special's musical style has been described as raw, politically engaged and emotionally charged. Their lyrics often reflect the young generation's frustration with a dysfunctional system, loss of hope and search for meaning. Songs like "Dust Off / Start Again" or "Black Dog / White Horse" in particular exude a strong social undercurrent and deep frustration that Big Special is able to express perfectly in both words and music. Because if there's one thing the Birmingham duo aren't afraid of, it's expressing their opinions openly and using music to inspire society to reflect and change. All this with just two musicians - a drummer and a singer.
