Icelandic singer-songwriter Unnar Gísli Sigurmundsson, performing under the stage name Júníus Meyvant, broke onto the music scene in 2015. During the Icelandic Music Awards, he was awarded "Newcomer of the Year" and "Single of the Year" for the song Color Decay from his debut EP (2015). He soon attracted the attention of fans from all corners of the world with his magical sounding music, which he describes as "soul-stirring Nordic melodies". He followed up his first success two years later when he won the "Album of the Year" category at the Icelandic Music Awards 2017 with Floating Harmonies.
Június Meyvant's music is a unique combination of folk, indie pop and soul. It carries a warmth, nostalgia, but also a playfulness. Combined with his light rasp and orchestral instruments, it creates a magical listening experience that will transport you to the far north. The groovy bass lines in his songs are reminiscent of typical American soul, while at other times they are closer to dream pop. But it doesn't matter what genre Júníus touches in his discography - all his songs evoke deep emotions.
In addition to the best-known hits Signals, Color Decay and Gold Laces, Júníus Meyvant will also bring to Prague the November release When You Touch The Sky, which is a possible precursor to the new album. Let the Nordic breeze breathe on you and then warm yourself with the melodies of this talented artist whose music leaves a strong impression on people. Tickets go on sale from Monday 10 February 2025 10:00 on GoOut.net.
