Kiiōtō is a new musical project that was created by the unexpected combination of two experienced artists - Lou Rhodes, singer and founder of the electronic duo Lamb, and Rohan Heath, a well-known multi-platinum composer and keyboardist associated with the British acid-jazz scene. The two knew each other from the Manchester music scene in the 1990s, but only really bonded during the pandemic. A period when they both more or less drifted away from music. Rhodes was writing poetry and Heath was writing a novel. They resisted music together at first, but when Rohan started playing piano and Lou spontaneously sang while cooking, it was clear that music had found them again. Thus the Kiiōtō project and debut album "As Dust We Rise" was born - a record that carries deep emotions, memories and a new beginning.

The album was created naturally and without pressure, in a shared home and with the help of close collaborators, including producer Simon Byrt and guest musicians. Musically, the record hovers between piano melancholy, jazzy harmonies and delicately layered acoustic melodies. Thematically, it draws on personal and universal stories - from mourning and the loss of loved ones, to exploring family roots in the American South in songs like Josephine Street and Spanish Moss, to tributes to forgotten figures like jazzman Bill Evans and paleontologist Mary Anning. Kiiōtō creates music that is at once intimate and visionary - free from the pressures of the music industry and created out of sheer inner need.

"As Dust We Rise" is a powerfully poetic album, where each track feels like a painting or a short film. Music critics have been impressed by its depth, intimacy and authenticity. It is the interplay between Heath's piano and Rhodes' ethereal voice that is often highlighted. It is music that does not rush, but all the more remains melancholic and hopeful. Let the tones of this duo carry you away too.
